Weeeee!!!!

Jason and I were lying in bed last night, and I felt the baby moving around a lot. I put Jason's hand on my belly, and he got to feel a kick! It was a very neat moment.

Our other baby

This is Remy, my (and Jason's) other baby. He's a 3 1/2 year old pit bull/lab mix that I adopted from Second Chance for Pets in March of 2006. He's the most wonderful dog I've ever known. When he came to me as a foster, he was about 10 lbs. underweight, his paws were covered in urine burn sores from sitting in a crate full of his own urine all day every day, and he was very shy. It didn't take him long to come out of his shell and show his true colors. Remy wants nothing more than a bowl of food, a squeaky toy, and to be showered with love and affection all day long. He's changed many peoples' minds about pit bulls and pit bull mixes. When they meet him, they're usually amazed at how well behaved and sweet he is. He's a great ambassador for the pit bull breed.

He's going to be a great big brother. I can see him being very attentive to the baby. He may be a little jealous at first, but he'll get over that quickly.

Doctors and furniture

Jason and I had our appointment with our baby's pediatrician yesterday. We both really liked her. She's young (early 40's probably) and a mom of 4, so I think I'll be able to relate to her better than some of the old men pediatricians in the area. I'm glad we got that done. Now we're going to start looking into childcare.

We picked out the nursery furniture that we're going to be ordering soon. It's from albeebaby.com, and it's really nice. The crib converts to a toddler daybed and then to full-size bed. The changing table can become a regular dresser when the baby is a little older. All of that for $400. Not bad!

Another major milestone!

I started feeling the baby move yesterday afternoon. I was sitting at my desk at work and felt a couple of flutters in my gut. I wasn't gassy or hungry, so I knew it had to be something else. It happens several times a day now, so it must be the baby! One flutter was so strong today while I was in a meeting at work that I giggled out loud. I'm totally fascinated with the sensation right now. Pretty soon it will be rib kicks, though, so I'm just going to enjoy the flutters while I can!

17 weeks, 2 days (People are great!)

If I had a dollar for every time someone asked me how I'm feeling, I would take Jason on a Las Vegas vacation! I'm just absolutely amazed by peoples' fascination with my pregnancy and their genuine concern about my health and well-being. I have to admit: I'm going to miss the attention when the baby comes! I might as well enjoy it while I can, huh? People are already wanting to touch my belly, even though the baby is only 5 inches long, and it's mostly just the top of my uterus that is making my stomach bulge out a bit. I have no problem with friends and family touching my belly, but I'll probably freak out if a stranger tries to touch it. I can't wait til that happens! I'm already noticing people staring at my belly, especially people who know I'm pregnant and are looking to see if I'm showing yet. It's funny to catch peoples' eyes wandering south!

Jason and I are meeting with our baby's possible pediatrician this week. Her name is Dr. Knoll, and she was recommended by someone in my office.

Only 16 days until our 20-week ultrasound! I hope the baby is in the right position to determine gender. I'm REALLY excited to name this baby already!

15 weeks, 4 days (Feelin' great!)

Well, I'm into my second trimester now, and I'm feeling fabulous! Still a little bit more lethargic than pre-pregnancy, but at least I'm functional now. Jason and I are getting very excited about the upcoming months. Our 20-week ultrasound is scheduled for October 1, and we can't wait to find out if this little critter is a boy or girl! We also scheduled an appointment for a 3D ultrasound on November 8, so that is something to look forward to.
