Jason and I had out first doctor's appointment last Wednesday. It was a quick one; my doctor just did an ultrasound to verify the pregnancy and my due date, which she put at February 18. Seeing our baby on the ultrasound screen was very cool, but it didn't seem real to me until I saw the heart flickering, after which my heart melted and my eyes got teary. There's actually a living being inside of me right now! I was so relieved when my doctor said that everything looks normal so far. Obviously things could still go wrong, but I'm trying not to think of that right now. Positive thoughts only!
I'm not showing yet, just getting bloated and chunky in other areas (like my thighs!) I'm not going to take a picture of my bloated belly, so I'll wait until I'm really starting to show to take some pregnancy pictures.
Here is a picture from the ultrasound. The head is on the left, and the little leg/feet buds are on the right. Enjoy!
In 7 ½ months, Jason and I will be proud parents, and our lives will be forever changed.
I took a home pregnancy test on Friday, June 20th because my period was 6 days late. Although I had tried to mentally prepare myself for a positive result, I trembled uncontrollably when the digital display read “PREGNANT.” (I took the other test in the package “just to be safe.”) I knew we weren’t ready to be parents; we had barely started our relationship together. But I also knew that we could be good parents, and if we were both dedicated enough, we would be. It took a few days for my anxiety to wind down, but once it did, it didn’t take long for the excitement to take over.
My pregnancy has been rather uneventful so far. The most noticeable symptom is extreme fatigue. I constantly feel as if I’ve been run over by a truck. I have no problem falling asleep before 9:30pm every night -- whereas pre pregnancy I stayed up until at least midnight every night -- and all I want to do after work is take a nap. I usually feel pretty good in the morning, but after lunch, I feel like a zombie. I’ve had a little bit of nausea so far, but nothing too bad. (I haven’t vomited yet.) Another annoying symptom is gas and bloating. I always feel like I’ve eaten a huge Mexican meal full of beans and fried junk. Although I’m not showing yet, my pants are definitely getting snug – I think (hope!) from all the bloating. My acne has also flared up in the past few weeks. I’m breaking out like a 15-year-old again. Where is this supposed pregnancy glow??? :-) All of these symptoms are good signs, though. It means there’s a baby growing steadily inside of me!
My first OB appointment and sonogram is on July 16th. I can’t wait to hear the heartbeat. I think everything will seem more real after my first appointment. I wish we had waited until after that appointment to start telling people, but we just couldn’t contain our excitement. :-)
More updates coming soon!
